APISA Fellowship


Invitation to Apply


The Asian Political and International Studies Association (APISA) invites applications for the APISA Fellowship from Asian scholars in the social sciences, especially those specializing in political science and international relations. Scholars of non-Asian descent who are specialists on Asian issues are also encouraged to apply.



Areas of Expertise


Special consideration will be given to scholars whose research agenda is framed in a theoretical and comparative perspective, one which strives to advance indigenous schools of thought, and focuses on the following areas which are also synonymous with APISA’s academic programs.


  • Conflict and Peace Studies

  • Democracy and Governance

  • Development Studies

  • Area Studies


In the awarding of the APISA Fellowship, priority would be given to members of Working Groups organized along the lines of the above programs. Outstanding research proposals in the other areas of the social sciences would also be given due consideration.



Requirements


Candidates must have as a minimum a PhD from a recognized university. Candidates who have satisfied al the requirements for a doctoral degree and are awaiting formal conferment may also apply. Preference would be given to members of APISA.



Terms and Conditions


The following terms and conditions apply to successful applicants:


  • APISA Fellowship is tenable for a maximum of six weeks

  • APISA Fellowship is tenable in an Asian country in the Southeast Asian, Northeast Asian and South Asian regions

  • APISA Fellowship is not tenable in the candidate’s country of origin

  • It would be preferable for candidates to be involved in joint research with another researcher in the country where the APISA Fellowship is tenable

  • Scholars must show proof that they will be accepted by an academic institution in the country where research is to be conducted

  • A research product should be submitted to the APISA Secretariat within six weeks from the completion of the research

  • Finished research products will be published as the APISA Working Paper. However, APISA reserves the right not to publish a research product.

  • Candidates would be expected to have a health/ travel insurance policy for the duration of the APISA Fellowship



Assessment of Applications


Applications will be audited by a three member APISA Fellowship Committee comprising leading scholars in the discipline of political science and international relations. The committee will have the discretion to refer applications to specific scholars for evaluation. The decision of the committee is final.



Submission of Applications


All applications must be accompanied by a three-page research proposal, curriculum vitae inclusive of a list of publications, and names of two academic referees.
